Direct Payments are regular payments that Kent County Council (KCC) makes to you (or to someone acting on your behalf) so that you can arrange, manage and pay for your own care and support.
This gives you more freedom, flexibility and control over:
what support you receive;
- for example, help with personal care, getting washed and dressed, medication support, meal preparation, shopping, household tasks or companionship
who provides your care;
- you can choose a care agency such as Avelo, or another approved provider that you feel comfortable and confident with
when and how your care is delivered;
- you can agree visit times, length of visits and the type of support you want, so your care fits around your normal routines and preferences
At Avelo Care we support clients who are set up with KCC and with a Direct Payment and/or Kent Card budget. If you already receive a Direct Payment from KCC, your care budget is usually paid onto a Kent Card or into a Direct Payment bank account. You can then use this to pay Avelo Care for your agreed package of care. We send clear, easy to read invoices at weekly intervals, and you (or your representative) can pay us using your Kent Card or Direct Payment account, in line with KCC guidance.
With Avelo Care, you also have the flexibility to “top up” your care if you would like more hours or additional support over and above the funds agreed by KCC.
Our team will guide you through each step, explain how the payments work, and help you put together a package of support that matches your needs and budget.
KCC will regularly review your direct payments to ensure they are being used in line with your care and support plan.
